Fasting Could Increase Overall Health
Research shows that intermittent fasting may lower risk of obesity, fatty liver disease, diabetes and cancer. The lifespan of rats increases when they fast every other day. Fasting is not simply calorie restriction, as it involves adjusting the window wherein all calories are consumed. The popular 5:2 diet has been shown to promote longevity. Participants consume whatever they want for five days, then consume just 500 calories for two consecutive days. Fasting promotes better health by “switching” the body to burning ketones, rather than glucose, for fuel.
