A Quick Dose of Laughter with Mark Angel Comedy
If you need a quick dose of humor and an insight into Nigerian tradition, culture and socio-political issues, MarkAngel Comedy is sure to deliver. With Nigeria’s growing reputation as a center for African film industry, it comes as no surprise that some of the best comedians in the continent are getting their early training here.
Starred by a revolving cast of characters both young and old (the sassy young Emmanuella is getting her fair share of fame), MarkAngel Comedy uploads weekly skits in five minutes or less, yet manages to pack a lot of comedic punch into their material and moral lessons or messages for viewers to mull over. Sometimes, using humor to make a point is more effective than making complaints. This is what MarkAngel Comedy, which joined YouTube in June 2013, attempts to achieve, and judging by the channel’s more than 389 million views, they are nailing it.
The cast occasionally speak Igbo (native language), but the dialogues are generally in English. They may be hard to follow, hence the English subtitles to make sure everyone is on the same page. This is important because MarkAngel Comedy has more than 1.7 million subscribers, and you don’t want to be the last one to laugh.
