An autobiographical film from Zambia’s first professional female director Musola Cathrine Kaseketi, Suwi tells the story of Suwilanji, a young woman whose life is changed once she becomes handicapped after a tragic accident. Suwi tackles tough topics surrounding stereotypes and misunderstandings about disability, and addresses issues of poverty, AIDS and youth homelessness.
Through Her Eyes by Xolile Tshabalala
Somi’s life is thrust into a tailspin when she should be her happiest in this short film by South African actress and director Xolile Tshabalala. Right before her wedding, Somi discovers that her fiancé may be sleeping with her best friend, and family turmoil arises when she tells her mother that she wants her estranged father to walk her down the aisle in this drama.
