Ryan Coogler to Write and Direct 'Black Panther 2'

While the move was expected, the timing of announcing Coogler’s involvement in the sequel to his original film was always unclear. Sources say Coogler is expected to begin penning the follow-up next year. Soon after ‘Black Panther’s’ premiere, Marvel and Coogler were questioned about when a sequel deal would be inked. The director’s camp reportedly took its time in making a deal, which occurred under the radar some time ago. ‘Black Panther’ grossed $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It also earned rave reviews from critics and audiences. Sources add production on the sequel will begin in either late 2019 or early 2020. There have not been any official announcements about Marvel movies beyond the release of ‘Avengers 4’ in May 2019 and a ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ sequel in July.
