Durban Is The African Beach City You Need To Visit This Summer

It is no surprise that South Africa is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa, if not the world. While many tourists flock to Cape Town for their coastal vacation, those who want a different experience should divert their attention to Durban.

Durban has the largest Indian population outside of the Indian sub-continent. Locals feast on “bunny chow,” which is a popular meal that consists of loaves of bread and curry.  After finishing their dish, they wash it down with a popular South Asian falooda called Bombay Crush. Of course, if you are not interested in South Asian food, there are an array of options. Visitors can still indulge in South African classics like Braai or other African-inspired dishes throughout the city.

Attractions

Durban is home to several points of interest that every tourist will like. If you are more family-oriented, head to the UShaka Marine World and catch a glimpse of aquatic animals at the 5th largest aquarium in the world. If you like huge event spaces, visit Moses Mabhida Stadium, a soccer stadium used for the 2010 World Cup. There, you can watch sporting events and concerts. If you are not into those types of attractions, you can always stroll to Durban’s downtown area to marvel at the architecture of the Old Court House Museum and catch a ride on a Zulu rickshaw.

Golden Mile Beach

Of course, no conversation about Durban is complete without mentioning the magnificent beaches. Although the stretch of beaches goes on for miles, Golden Mile Beach is perhaps the most world-renowned. Passerbys can walk on the boardwalk and take a break from their busy lives by looking at astonishing oceanic views. No matter the time of year, you can always see people with their towels and enjoying themselves while the sun is out – and maybe you can see a glimpse of the lifeguards that man the lifeguard stations.
